Value Dashboard
The Value Dashboard is WitnessAI’s executive-level ROI reporting center, designed to translate AI governance activity into measurable business value. It gives security, finance, and operations leaders a single view into the three dimensions of AI value: risk avoided (security incidents and data leaks prevented), cost saved (unnecessary AI spend eliminated), and AI impact (productive usage driving business outcomes). The summary banner at the top shows the total value WitnessAI has generated in the selected time period, and each sub-section below provides a detailed breakdown with charts and trend data. Organizations use this dashboard to justify AI investments, demonstrate compliance posture, and identify opportunities to optimize AI spend further.
The Value tab on Home: risk avoided, cost saved, and the events behind them.
Note: Value figures are estimates derived from the activity WitnessAI observes and the policies you enforce. Use them to communicate impact, not as precise accounting.
Reading the dashboard
- Headline: The line at the top states the total value for the period, split into risk avoided and cost savings. The total is the sum of the Risk Avoided and Cost Saved figures.
- Filters: Next to the headline are a date range picker, All Departments and All Applications filters, and the settings gear. When a filter is active, a Clear button appears at the start of the row.
- Date range: A link with no date range opens on your deployment's default range: Last 7 days on most deployments, or a shorter range on large deployments. Large deployments also limit how long a range you can pick, to 31 or 7 days depending on size.
- Updated: The timestamp under the filters shows when the data was last refreshed. Productivity classification on AI Impact is recalculated at the end of each day. The other figures come from live data.
Note: When you filter by department or application, Shadow AI Prevention on Cost Saved counts as zero, because discovered applications can't be attributed to a department or application.
Risk Avoided
The Risk Avoided dashboard quantifies the financial value WitnessAI generates by intercepting harmful or non-compliant AI prompts before they reach language models. It breaks down total risk avoided into three categories: Prompts Blocked (malicious or policy-violating prompts stopped at runtime), Data Protection (regulated or sensitive data prevented from leaving the organization), and Proprietary Info Leak (source code and confidential intellectual property protected from exfiltration). The Risk Distribution donut chart shows the proportional breakdown across security events, data leaks, and proprietary data threats, while the Risk Events over Time chart reveals daily patterns of AI risk activity, helping security and compliance teams understand exposure trends and demonstrate the measurable ROI of AI governance.
For each category, the value is events intercepted × escalation rate × cost per incident. The escalation rate is your estimate of how many intercepted events would have become real incidents if they hadn't been stopped. The defaults are:
Category | Default cost per incident | Default escalation rate |
Security events (Prompts Blocked) | $12,000 | 40% |
Data leaks (Data Protection) | $4,950 | 40% (uses the security event escalation rate) |
Proprietary info leak | $15,000 | 40% |
Note: Value no longer has a Total Cost view. Token usage and estimated cost by model, application and user are on the Spend tab.
Cost Saved
The Cost Saved dashboard translates WitnessAI’s AI governance capabilities into direct financial savings for your organization. It surfaces three distinct cost-reduction mechanisms: Intelligent AI Routing (automatically directing prompts to the cheapest capable model, reducing token spend without sacrificing quality), Blocked Prompts (stopping unnecessary or irrelevant requests before they consume model compute), and Shadow AI Prevention (discovering and consolidating unsanctioned AI tools and redundant SaaS seats). The Cost Distribution donut chart shows where savings originate, often dominated by Shadow AI Prevention, which reflects the hidden cost of unmanaged AI tool sprawl. The Cumulative Savings chart tracks financial impact over time, giving finance and operations leaders a clear, growing ROI signal tied directly to WitnessAI’s deployment.
The defaults behind each card are:
- Intelligent AI Routing: $0.05 saved per routed prompt.
- Blocked Prompts: $0.02 of compute cost avoided per blocked prompt (the Pre-Model Filtering cost setting).
- Shadow AI Prevention: $3,000 per unsanctioned app per year, prorated by the days in the selected range. This rate is fixed.
ROI Metrics Configuration
To set ROI metrics for the Value dashboard, click the settings gear at the end of the filter row, after the All Departments and All Applications filters. The Configuration drawer opens, with Risk avoided, Cost saved and AI Impact tabs. Each tab holds the settings for that part of the dashboard. After editing, select Save configuration. Reset to defaults restores the defaults for the tab you have open.
The Configuration drawer lets administrators enter the financial metrics WitnessAI uses to calculate risk avoided and cost saved. Entering your organization’s actual values, the dashboard displays ROI figures that reflect your specific business metrics.
Productive and non-productive keyword lists help the AI Value scoring engine accurately classify prompts as productive work versus personal use or waste. The “View methodology & sources” link explains the calculation framework, and “Reset to defaults” restores industry-standard benchmarks sourced from IBM, Gartner, and other research organizations. Setting these values makes the WitnessAI ROI dashboard accurate for executive and financial conversations.
Note: Only the Admin role and the roles above it can save the configuration. Other roles can open the drawer to read the values, and see "Contact your administrator to update the ROI configuration."
Cost and rate fields accept 0 or greater, and escalation rates accept 0 to 100 percent. Each keyword list must hold between 1 and 20 keywords. Employee hourly rate defaults to $75. Some assumptions are fixed and shown only in the methodology: 15 minutes saved per productive prompt, a 50% waste factor for unproductive prompts, and $3,000 per app per year for Shadow AI Prevention.
AI Impact
The AI Impact dashboard addresses the executive question of whether AI investments are generating productive outcomes. It separates productive AI usage from unproductive or unclassified interactions, giving leadership a clear view of how effectively employees are using AI tools. Key metrics include Active Usage (number of users and applications actively engaging with AI), Usage Intensity (average prompts per user, showing adoption depth), and Protected AI Usage (the percentage of total AI activity that WitnessAI governs and monitors). The Productivity Trend chart tracks how productive versus unproductive AI behavior changes week-over-week, while the Adoption Trends chart shows whether AI engagement is growing across the organization. Together, these metrics help CIOs, CAIOs, and line-of-business leaders connect AI spend to demonstrable workforce productivity gains, closing the loop on the business case for AI governance.
WitnessAI classifies each prompt as Productive, Unproductive or Unclassified using your keyword lists, and estimates:
- Productive value: productive prompts × 15 minutes saved per prompt × your employee hourly rate.
- Unproductive waste: unproductive prompts × time cost × a 50% waste factor. Unclassified prompts carry no dollar value.
